Clinical Studies on 282 Cases of Salomellosis

Abstract
Clinical investigation was undertaken on 282 Salmonella patients. In all cases, hematological, bacteriological, and histopathological studies were performed, and the following conclusion were obtained:
1. The age incidence ranged from 18 to 30 years, showing a peak distribution in the group of 21-25, years of age.
2. In the hematological. examination the white cell count was normal in 50% and leukopenia. was observed in 81% of the total cases interestingly, leukocytosis was observed in 18% of the patients.
3. In serological examination, 42% was positive in the Widal test 40% was S. typhi, and 2% was S: paratyphi B.
4. In bacteriological study S. typhosa was isolated from the blood of the patients in 1.7%, and from the stool in 28% of the cases.
5. Surgical observation and postmortem studies revealed the intestinal perforationonthe antimesenteric side of the ileum in all perforated cases.
6. Medical treatment with intermittent chioranaphenicol administration was given in nonperforated cases.
For all perforated cases, on stage operative procedure Was performed in the patients with poor condition and two stage operative proce ure was carried out in the patients with relatively good condition.
7. Mortality rate showed 0.3% in the nonperforated cases and 25% in the perforated cases.
